Ocean Sustainability Forum in Los Angeles - An Echo to the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025
The FACC California Sustainability Committee, in collaboration with the Consulate General of France in Los Angeles, hosted a landmark Ocean Sustainability Forum in the gardens of the French Consulate, bringing together scientists, innovators, policymakers, and sustainability leaders committed to ocean conservation.
This special evening served as a strategic echo to the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, and aligned with global efforts to accelerate action on SDG 14: Life Below Water.
The program featured inspiring contributions from leading voices in ocean science and innovation, including Dr. Séverine Fournier from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who shared insights on ocean–climate interactions through satellite data, and Jess Adkins, Co-founder and CEO of Calcarea, who presented innovative approaches to carbon capture at sea. The evening also highlighted Plastic Odyssey, showcasing its mission to tackle ocean plastic pollution through scalable, community-driven solutions.
Through panel discussions, storytelling, and immersive content, participants explored urgent challenges facing the oceans and the innovative technologies and collaborations emerging to address them. The forum emphasized the importance of cross-sector engagement between science, startups, and public institutions in driving meaningful impact.
The event concluded with a networking reception, offering attendees the opportunity to connect with experts across environmental science, clean technology, policy, and sustainable finance.
