Aix-Marseille-Provence: A Heaven for American Researchers!

In a context where academic freedom is sometimes under threat, France reaffirms its commitment to research by offering a privileged welcome to international scientists. Aix-Marseille University (AMU) stands out with its "Safe Place for Science" program, designed to provide a secure working environment for American researchers wishing to pursue their work independently. An initiative that quickly resonated within the French academic landscape, inspiring other higher education institutions to follow suit.

With over 120 research units and cutting-edge infrastructures, AMU offers a dynamic and interdisciplinary scientific ecosystem. Major initiatives in fields such as environmental science, healthcare, and social sciences illustrate this excellence.

By embracing a multicultural approach, the university fosters the mutual enrichment of knowledge and encourages innovation. Thanks to dedicated funding, it plans to host around fifteen researchers over three years, reinforcing its commitment to scientific freedom.

An Ambitious Call for Projects

As part of this initiative, AMU has launched a call for applications targeting American researchers whose work is hindered by political or institutional constraints. This program is supported by leading academic and institutional partners, including CNRS, INSERM, and IRD, as well as public stakeholders such as the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis and the Sud Region.

Selected researchers will receive personalized support, including funding, access to the university’s top-tier laboratories, and seamless integration into the local scientific community.

The Aix-Marseille aera is thus establishing itself as a model in defending scientific freedom, further enhancing France’s attractiveness as a hub for international research.

Provence Promotion, the economic development agency for Aix-Marseille metro aera in the South of France supporting foreign direct investment projects in Provence, works closely with AMU and CISAM (The City of Innovation and Knowledge Aix-Marseille) to drive the development of breakthrough innovations in the region.
